Best of (late) 2008

hey, what's up everybody, it is now 2009 and a long time since i have posted. here is some of my favorite things that happened in 2008 since that shit is fucking over and now we have this next shitty year to look forward to since nothing will ever be as good as 2008 again.

The Hospitals "Hairdryer Peace"-i'm going to talk about this album now. this album is fucking beautiful in its simple execution. it's weird and your parents probably won't like it but as far as realizing what the world is like in this time this album captures it. it's not even an album that you can pick definitive sections from, it's all good. the songs exist for each other and taken out of context of the entire album they are certainly lessened. this album is important. i cannot stress it enough. just the fact that a band can make you think of Twin Infinitives (the greatest rock album of all time) by Royal Trux without being at all like Royal Trux or Twin Infinitives is a fucking feat in and of itself.

The Dead C-"Secret Earth"+Reissues of older shit-hopefully you know who the fuck The Dead C are. after getting this album you will know that even after 20 years or whatever this band still rules harder than many ever will. Secret Earth is classic Dead C but not because it's not the late 80s early 90s anymore. it's an album from a band that has grown and remained amazing. also, this was released around the time of them touring the US and reissuing a bunch of older, and harder to find shit of there's on vinyl. The two reissues come in the form of double albums which are the mash up of Eusa Kills/Helen Said this and DR503/Sun Stabbed. this shit is truly truly amazing. also the vinyl is heavy as fuck and will certainly last awhile. worth it alone just to hear them cover Children of the Revolution by T.Rex

Guns 'N Roses releasing "Chinese Democracy"-Way to go Axel. it took you 12 years. now you know the inside and out of Pro Tools. do me a favor and make sure Bucket-Head stays indoors from now on.

Business Lady putting out "Torture Footage" on Load- been waiting for this for a good piece. i've got the other jams this long lost band has put out and tons of memories of seeing them in full force when i lived in Daygo but this album puts it all together. there other shit is cool, as in the Splits with Rose for Bohdan and Hustler White and the pink CD (i'm probably forgetting some) but they sort of fail to capture the full power of this band. Torture Footage does capture that and well, even with the absence of the old lead singer. it's a big mess of riffs, excellent bass lines, and of course drumming that makes alot of other weirdo punk music drummers look like pussies. as far as the bands that Business Lady could be categorized with they stand at the top of the heap for me. maybe it's just having seen them dressed up like Buffaloes/Goblins/the 1920s at shows where they outplayed every other rock band on the bill, but i also just plainly think they had something alot of other bands didn't. i will miss this band as i have been since they broke up a few years back but this joint stands as a true testament to what they were capable of.
